Beneath the Cross of Jesus

The United Methodist Hymnal Number 297 Text: Elizabeth C. Clephane, 1830-1869 Music: Frederick C. Maker, 1844-1927   1.  Beneath the cross of Jesus I fain would take my stand, the shadow of a mighty rock within a weary land; a home within the wilderness, a rest upon the way, from the burning of the noontide heat, and the burden of the day. 2.  Upon that cross of Jesus mine eye at times can see the very dying form of One who suffered there for me; and from my stricken heart with tears two wonders I confess: the wonders of redeeming love and my unworthiness. 3.  I take, O cross, thy shadow for my abiding place; I ask no other sunshine than the sunshine of his face; content to let the world go by, to know no gain nor loss, my sinful self my only shame, my glory all the cross.

BROKEN AND SPILLED OUT

One day a plain village woman Driven by love for her Lord Recklessly poured out a valu’ble essence Disregarding the scorn And was it was broken and spilled out A fragrance filled all the room Like a pris’ner released from his shackles Like a spirit set free from the tomb Chorus1: Broken and spilled out Just for love of you Jesus My most precious treasure, lavished on Thee Broken and spilled out And poured at your feet in sweet abandon Let me be spilled out and used up for Thee Lord you were God’s precious treasure His loved and His own perfect son Sent here to show me the love of the Father Just for love it was done And though you were perfect and holy You gave up yourself willingly You spared no expense for my pardon You were used up and wasted for ...

BECAUSE HE LIVES

God sent His son, they called Him Jesus He came to love, heal and forgive He lived and died to buy my pardon An empty grave is there to prove, my Savior lives Chorus: Because He lives, I can face tomorrow Because He lives all fear is gone Because I know, He holds the future And life is worth the living just Because he lives And then one day, I’ll cross that river I’ll fight life’s final war with pain And then as death gives way to victoryI’ll see the lights of glory and I know He reigns

BECAUSE OF WHO YOU ARE

You spoke the words and all the world came into order You wave your hands and planets filled with empty skies, you place the woman and the man inside the garden, and though they fell, they found compassion In your eyes Oh Lord I stand amazed at the wonders of your deeds And yet a greater wonder brings me to my knees Chorus: Lord I praise you because of who you are Not just for all the mighty things that you’ve done, Lord I worship you because of who you are, you’re all the reasons that I need to voice my prayer, because of who you are One holy night you brought your promise from a virgin A promise grew as He revealed to us your heart Enduring love displayed throughout your crucifixion And in the dark He tore the grave and death apart

BEHOLD WHAT MANNER OF LOVE

Behold what manner of love the father has given unto us, Behold what manner of love the father has given unto us, that we should called the sons of God, that we should be called the sons of God.
